CM inaugurates Loktak Lake Front Garden

Chief minister N Bi-ren inaugurated the Loktak Lake Front Garden at Sen-dra in Bishnupur district on Thursday, in the presence of Rajya Sabha MP Leishemba Sanajaoba, YAS minister Govindas Konthoujam, PHE minister L Susindro, education minister Th Basanta, LDA chairman M Asnikumar and senior government officials.
The Garden will host the delegates of G20 events and provide them with an opportunity to experience Loktak Lake from up close.
After cutting the ribbon, the CM expressed satisfaction at the preparations being made for the G20 events, and appealed to the people for cooperation in restoring the fragile ecosystem of Loktak and its associated wetlands.
"The lake front is going to play a major role in making Loktak Lake more accessible to tourists and promote eco-tourism in the state," Biren said.
He also informed that the state government is taking up extensive measures for the revival, complete rejuvenation and conservation of Loktak Lake and its associated wetlands.
In his address, LDA chairman Asnikumar assured the CM that the LDA would leave no stone unturned in conserving the Loktak Lake through participatory processes and judicious use of the resources of the lake and its associated wetlands.
He also appealed to the fishers and people settling in the catchment for contributing their mite in the conservation efforts and fulfilling the dream of PM Narendra Modi and CM N Biren to make Loktak an iconic wetland site of the South East Asian region.
