House okays six demands : Legal steps mulled against errant docs

Imphal, July 07 2015 : Altogether six demands amounting to Rs 701,38,81,000 for Health and Family Welfare, municipal administration and urban development, Cooperation, administration of justice, stationery and printing, Science and Technology and Information Technology were passed by the State Assembly today.

Taking part in discussing the demands, Law Minister Thoudam Debendra stated that District Magistrates of Imphal West, Imphal East, Senapati and Thoubal have been entrusted to take up legal measures which can effectively deter crimes against women.

To a query raised by Th Shyamkumar about non-appointment of CEO for the State Cooperative Bank, Cooperation Minister AK Mirabai stated that notice for appointment of CEO was issued three times but none of the candidates who applied fulfilled the criteria set by the RBI.

Subsequently, the State Government has written to NABARD to send an officer qualified for the post of CEO.

Legal actions may be initiated against State Government doctors who have been receiving non-practising allowance if they are also working in private hospitals/clinics.

No action has been initiated against such defaulting doctors because there is no concrete report, stated Health and Family Welfare Minister Phungzathang Tonsing.

There is an agreement which says that all doctors who go for PG courses should work in Government hospitals for at least three years after completion of their courses.

If the same agreement is violated, the expenditures incurred in doing PG course may be recuperated from their pensions/salaries.

Chief Minister O Ibobi stated that waste materials emanating from the three market complexes of Imphal city could not be managed by Imphal Municipal Corporation.

Even police were pressed into service.

But shopkeepers and vendors are refusing to mend their ways.

While ground floors should be reserved for vendors, the first floors should accommodate banks, canteens and first aid counters.

There was an understanding to this effect.

Opposition Members Dr I Ibohalbi, L Ibomcha, K Shyam and Th Shyamkumar raised policy cut motions though they were eventually withdrawn subsequent upon which all the demands were passed.
