Ukhrul, July 07 2015 :
Chadong village has literally remained cut off as the road connecting the village is submerged under water.
The only means to reach the village now is on a small wooden boat.
The boat is ferrying daily amenities of the villagers.
Once considered the rice bowl of Ukhrul district, the 1215 hectare large cultivable area of Chadong is under water.
Rice production in the district has obviously declined substantially.
Members of Tangkhul social organisations like Tangkhul Shanao Long and Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong with a team of media persons visited Chadong to take stock of the situation.

Although the water level is gradually rising, the villagers are firm in not leaving their village unless the Govt settles their problem with due acknowledgement of their rights.
Headman of Chadong, W Kasar said that 90 households of the village are yet to receive rehabilitation package.
The villagers also expressed fear on the possible outbreak of epidemic due to the change in the environment.
The villagers also urged the Govt to implement the Expert Review Committee recommendations before matters turn worse.
