JCILPS strike hits normal life

Imphal, July 07 2015 :
Normal life was seriously hit by the 19-hour Manipur wide general strike call given by Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) on Tuesday.
The strike which began midnight of July 6 ended at 7 pm.
No untoward incidents were reported during the course of the general strike.
All sorts of public and private vehicles except those relaxed by JCIPS remained off the road in the valley.
Passenger services were suspended for the day.
Almost all business activities in main markets of the valley districts were paralysed.
Both private and Government establishments were affected.
No school and colleges were opened.
Banks were also closed for the day.
Total gridlock was witnessed in Naorem Leikai, Singjamei, Ayang Palli, Kongba, Tinsid road, Khurai, Irilbung, Yairipok road, Thoubal Haokha, Wangbal, Pangalsiphai , Sugnu Siphai and many other localities.
JCILPS had imposed the strike demanding introduction of a new acceptable bill in the ongoing State Assembly session to safeguard the indigenous people after withdrawing the Manipur Regulation�of Visitors, Tenants and�Migrant�Workers�Bill, 2015 .
Armed policemen, VDF and paramilitary personnel were deployed in all trouble prone areas.
However no report of untoward incident was received from any parts of the state.
