Road block decries pathetic road stretch

Imphal, April 25 2023:
Irked over the pitiful conditions of Imphal-Yairipok road from Kongba Bazar upto Keirao Bitra Khunou, volunteers of All Kongba Road United Clubs' Organisation (AKRUCO) and locals blocked the road stretch today.
The protesters placed tree branches and other heavy items along the road stretch apart from burning tyres, causing disturbance to vehicular movement.
People coming to attend rituals and for medical and essential services, however, were allowed to traverse the road.
Later, a team of Imphal East police led by the Officer-in-Charge of Irilbung police cleared the debris and branches after dispersing the protesters to resume vehicular movements.

Imphal East SP Ksh Shivakanta also rushed to the spot and took stock of the situation.
Reportedly, the protesters came out after the police left the area and closed the road stretch again.
It is said that all shops and keithels located between Kongba Bazar and Irilbung Bazar were closed too in support of the protest.
Speaking to the media, AKRUCO convenor Lenin Hirom said that the department concerned is aware of the conditions of the road stretch which is in a bad shape.
Saying that they had also submitted a reminder to the Government to repair the road, Lenin rued that their demand, however, fell on deaf ears.
He went on to state that several accidents have taken place along the route.
