Protestors block Imphal-Yairipok Road demanding repair

Imphal, April 25 2023:
Under the aegis of All Kongba Road United Clubs' Organisation, locals of Kongba and surrounding areas began indefinite shutdown of Imphal-Yairipok Road since early Tuesday morning against the failure of the government to repair the road.
Protestors were seen blocking road in Kongba Keithel to Keirao Bitra Keinou areas on Tuesday morning? Traffic movement was severely affected due to the protest though movements related with religious events, med ical emergency and essential services were exempted from the purview of the bandh.
Later, Irilbung police team came and dispersed the protestors and cleared the debris piled up on the road by the protestors.
Police personnel were deployed in the area to prevent unwanted incidents and normal traffic was resumed.
Imphal East SP Kh Shivkanta also visited the spot and took stock of the situation.
However, as soon as the SP and police teams left, the protestors resumed the bandh.
Shops and business establishments along the road from Kongba Keithel to Irilbung Keithel remained as solidarity to the protest.
According to the organisation's convenor Lenin, they have been demanding the government to repair the road for a long time but the government keeps ignoring despite knowing the poor condition of the road stretch.
He demanded authority concerned to begin road repair work at the earliest before they resort to more intense forms of agitation.
