Imphal, April 25 2023:
In keeping with the organisation's tradition of paying tribute to the Manipuri war heroes of the Anglo-Manipuri War of 1891, the International Peace and Social Advancement (IPSA) is set to observe 'Dark Day" (Amamba Numit) on April 27 at GM Hall, Imphal.
According to a statement, British forces occupied Kangla after the war and the Union Jack was hoisted replacing the flag of the independent kingdom of Manipur on the morning of April 27, 1891 .
Following this, British forces killed numerous persons by hanging while others were banished to Kalapani and Sylhet.
IPSA has been commemorating this day as 'Dark Day' or 'Amamba Numit' for more than two decades.
Urging people to attend the observance programme, IPSA has sought financial and material help from the public to make their Dark Day observation a success.
