Imphal, April 25 2023:
Six women's organisations along with the JAC against the brutal killing of Akoijam Nonganba alias Aging, who was found dead on February 11, have cautioned of launching intense agitations if the case is not handed over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) at the earliest.
Addressing a press meet at Manipur Press Club, here, on Tuesday, Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba Manipur president L Memchoubi and Kanglamei president Y Leirik Leima jointly condemned the Chief Minister for allegedly remaining silent after assuring to hand over the case of Aging, who was found brutally murdered at Changoubung under Kanglatongbi PS, to the NIA.
The JAC and the women's organisations had withdrawn its earlier protests, claimed Aging's body on March 25 and went on to conduct the Shradh ceremony on April 5 after the CM assured of handing over the case to NIA.
However, neither the culprits involved Aging's murder could be produced nor the truth of the case placed in the public domain even after three months of his (Aging) death.
On the other hand, Aging's mother Akoijam Shanti condemned her son's alleged girlfriend Thokchom Sonia of Kwakeithel Thokchom Leikai and Kangpokpi district SP of hiding the truth of her son's death.
It is even more distressing to learn that the police, despite knowing that Sonia had lured Aging away from his house before he was found dead, are trying to suppress the case.
Of the three people involved in the incident, namely Sonia, Moses and Stephen, Stephen is yet to be arrested which shows the incompetence of the state police, she contended.
The distraught mother then said that no compromise including monetary compensation will be made in the case with the government and any private individual, while adding that protests will continue until the culprits responsible are punished.
