Khongjom Battle commemorated

Remembering the brave hearts who fought the Khongjom Battle of Anglo Manipur War 1891, Khongjom Battle Memorial Committee observed Khongjom Battle Commemoration Day at Tengol Lampak near Khongjom Keithel today.
Paying homage and floral tribute to the bust of Major Chongtha Miya erected at Tengol Lampak and other unknown valiant fighters were the highlight of the observation.
Salai Apunba Nupi Lamjing Lup Advisor and State Awardee Yumnam Ibethoi Devi and Ex Serviceman Chanam Sarat attended as the presidium members of the occasion.
Kongjom Parba dedicated to the brave fighters of the Khongjom battle was also presented.
Addressing the gathering, Khongjom Battle Memorial Committee Secretary Ching Tam Luwang spoke at length why the day is observed on April 25 .

Speaking at the occasion, United Chongthas president Chongtham Tomba said 'The Khongjom Battle Memorial Committee has been observing the day on April 25 every year since 1994 as per the findings in some documents that the last battle of Anglo Manipur War 1891was fought in April 25' .
The day is commemorated to instill the spirit of patriotism among the youths and to remember the brave forefather who fought selfless for their motherland, he added.
Meanwhile, floral tributes was paid at Khongjom river in the honour of the Khongjom battle warriors organised by the Justice Committee on Anglo-Manipuri War, 1891 Martyrs & Freedom Fighters, Kangleipak (Manipur) in association with Ningthemcha Ningsing Lup, Major Chongthamia Memorial Committee, Heirangkhongja Memorial Trust, Descendants of Yengkhoiba Major, Paona Brajabashi and Unsung Heroes.
