Thoubal, April 25 2023:
Locals of Charangpat Mayai Leikai have appealed to K Meghachandra, MLA, Wangkhem Assembly Constituency and other relevant authority during a public meeting to carry out the ongoing renovation work of Arong River at Charangpat Mayai Leikai by the side of the road instead of along the agricultural fields.
It may be noted that under the ongoing renovation work of Arong River, the river bed has been dug up at different sites to widen the river.
The public meeting was organised by Pukhri Achouba Development Committee Charangpat Mayai (PADC) and Social Youth Volunteers Academy Charangpat Mamang (SYVA) and held at Charangpat Luxmi Bazar SYVA Ground.
Residents of the area appealed for the renovation work to be conducted quickly and in the same fashion as carried out at Charangpat Mamang and Charangpat Maning where the renovation work has been done by the road.
Speaking on the occasion, S Romesh, vice president, PADC lauded the MLA on behalf of Charangpat village for spearheading the initiative to revamp Arong River, which had previously been reduced to the status of a glorified drain, to its current improved State along Charangpat Mamang and Maning Leikai.
However, at Charangpat Mayai Leikai, the renovation work is carried out quite a distance away from the road side along the agricultural fields.
He urged the MLA to broaden the river near the road so that the Arong River can resume its old course.
This will also prove beneficial to the scores of people residing by the road side and further with regards to the MLA's newly undertaken water supply schemes as well, he added.
