Hand holding workshop on OBPS begins

Imphal, September 01 2022: A two-day hand holding workshop on 'Online Building Permission System (OBPS)' which is being organised by Town Planning Department began from Thursday at City Convention Centre, Palace Compound, here.

MAHUD minister Y Khemchand, who was chief guest of the inaugural session of the workshop, said that majority of buildings constructed in Imphal area fail to follow building bye-law of IMC but mechanism to act against violation of IMC bye-law seems very weak.

As per IMC bye-law, at least two and half feet must be left for drainage system with neighbour while constructing a building but two adjacent buildings are being constructed nowadays without leaving any space almost making a common wall.

This led to failure of drainage system in Imphal area and caused severe problem, he said and questioned as to why IMC could not act against violation of its own norms.

He also said that self-styled construction of buildings by owners without consulting architect led to numerous faults and this need to be rectified with a strict mechanism.

PDA chairman Lourembam Ramshwor, who also attended the inaugural session, said that IMC bye law need to be implemented fully at the earliest to bring uniformity of buildings and also to maintain drainage system.

This will help in solving problem of flash flood during rainy season, he explained and appealed to architects to put more emphasis on indigenous designs while constructing a building.

The inaugural session of the workshop was also attended by chief town planner N Beju Singh, Manipur Architect Forum president Aribam Jaychandra Sharma, associate town and country planner, TCPO and scientist D of NIC, Meghalaya Gulrej Sohilaya.
