Senapati, July 12 2022:
Rohan Agarwal, a 20-year-old environmental activist from Kamthi, Nagpur, Maharashtra, who had started his journey on August 25, 2020), arrived here on Monday.
He was received and felicitated by Maram Battalion (33 AR) commandant colonel Arnab Mitra for his effort towards spreading awareness about 'Single Use Plastic'.
An awareness lecture on "Ban of Single Use Plastic" (SUP) was also organised, where 60 students of Assam Rifles Public School, Maram attended.
Rohan reportedly left his home with just a backpack and Rs 2500 in his wallet and has so far covered over 23 states.
He has always been impressed by the ancient Gurukul education system under which students have to undertake a Deshantan (journey across India) at least once during their course of study.
The journey had to be completely on foot and the rule was never to ask for food, shelter or anything else.
The aim was to learn about India's culture, its people, broaden one's perspective on life and learn practical life skills.
Rohan decided to adopt the same practice with the exception that he would also hitchhike when possible.
When the environmental activist reached Manipur, he had already completed around 690 days since he started his journey.
He plans to visit every state in India and to Siberia.
Rohan has already crossed nearly 23 states.
In this trip, he is also making sure to explain to the people about plastic pollution and the ill-effects of using plastic.
While appreciating Rohan Agarwal's determination and courage, colonel Arnab Mitra wished him luck and success in his journey.
Rohan Agarwal aims to get together people from all walks of life, regions, cultures and religions to make them aware of the importance of saving soil from single-use plastic.
"Unity binds the diverse culture, traditions and communities of our great Nation", said Rohan while adding that he has learnt a lot about other communities and the experiences have broadened his perspective bn life.
