Rajya Sabha MP emphasizes on strengthening Meitei-Pangal culture

The titular king of Manipur, Sanajaoba Leisemba, who is also the Member of the Rajya Sabha has called on with the Meitei-Pangal (Manipuri Muslims) communities on its Annual Gathering held today at his residential complex at Sana Konung, Imphal.
The annual meeting with the Meitei-Pangals under the theme 'Eegi-Khongul Leeba amasung Pukmen-Paomennaba' has been organised at the Sana Konung by the Meitei-Pangal Eegi Khongul Leeba Foundation Committee, Manipur on the July, 17 every year since 2019 .
However, as the MP is already engaged with the upcoming parliament sessions and the ensuing presidential election, the meeting for this year has been preponed today, said a press release by the secretary general of the Committee.
The meeting was attended by the members of the Eegi khongul leeba led by its president Bm Yaima Shah and other representatives, executive members and representatives from various Metei-Pangal concentrated areas.
Preserving the unique cultural heritage, traditional art and craft of the Meitei-Pangals, adoption of clans (surnames) in giving their identity, proper documentations of the clan systems granted by the then king of Manipur, revival of the Kaji Loishang system in the aspects of culture and traditions, etc.
were some of the main highlights as emphasised by the MP of Rajya Sabha in the meeting.
Discussing at lengths the various issues faced by the Meitei-Pangals, he assured that he would look after the issues as the Member of the Parliament and the titular King of Manipur by extending support in all possible ways to uplift the socio -economic, educational and cultural status of the Meitei Pangal communities.
He also emphasised on adopting the historical and cultural aspects of the Meitei-Pangals in the school syllabus and curriculum under the NEP 2020.He maintained that the skills of the rich traditional art and crafts of the Meitei-Pangals should be conserved and fostered by adopting the 64 Kalaas which are being emphasised in the National Education Policy 2020 .
The meeting also resolved to organise seminars/conferences on past, present and future of the Meitei-Pangals before the next year's meeting on July17, 2023, added the release.
