Imphal, July 12 2022:
Extra-judicial Execution Victim Families Association (EEVFAM) has submitted a written request to the Union Home Ministry for granting prosecution sanction against personnel of armed forces named as accused in the ongoing investigation of CBI SIT into the extra-judicial killings of civilians.
As per the letter which was jointly signed by EEVFAM president Renu Takhellambam and secretary Indina Yaikhom and submitted to the Union Home Ministry through the Manipur Governor, the Association said that in connection with a writ petition filed by its partner, Human Rights Alert (HRA), the Supreme Court ordered a Special Investigation Team (SIT) of CBI to investigate the 1528 extrajudicial killing cases.
In compliance with the order, the CBI-SIT carried out an investigation and submitted the final report to the magistrate concerned.
However, the Union Home Ministry has refused to grant the prosecution sanction in all of the cases, claiming that the armed forces personnel are not involved, despite the clear existence of prima facie evidences.
The families of the victims have been denied justice for so many years and the Union Home Ministry is trying to block/hinder the process of justice at every juncture, regardless of the mountains of evidences uncovered by CBI as per the SC's order.
Thus, EEVFAM appealed to the Union Home Ministry to grant the prosecution sanction in the cases and ensure the victims' families get justice.
