Imphal, July 12 2022: The North-East Forum for International Solidarity (NEFIS) has condemned the recent spate of killings of migrant workers in Manipur.

NEFIS in the statement said that the State has witnessed a massive surge in violence and killing of migrant workers.

In the last few weeks, several instances of shooting non-locals have happened in Imphal, Churachandpur, Kakching and Thoubal districts.

The statement added that such worrisome incidents are happening in the State at a very turbulent time when communalism and inter-ethnic clashes are stoked and anti-immigrant sentiment is growing.

The anti-migrant sentiment only prevails due to lack of jobs and resources in the region, and these issues need to be resolved first, it said.

The migrant workers only contribute to the economy and it is actually the capitalists and corporates who come to plunder the resources.
