Memorial site meet

The Preservation Committee of Deported Manipuri War Heroes in Andaman and Nicobar Islands organised a public discussion programme today at Manipur Press Club in connection with efforts to procure land for development of a memorial site on the island.
Speaking to media persons, N Nabakanta, founder general secretary, Preservation Committee of Deported Manipuri War Heroes in Andaman and Nicobar Islands said the committee was formed in 2005 with the sole purpose of developing a memorial site for deported heroes of Manipur to Andaman and Nicobar islands.
Members of the committee visited the islands in 2006 and paid tribute to the heroes of Manipur, he added.
The committee had been urging the authorities of the Union Territory to provide land for the proposed memorial site and finally on June 27, 2019 the authorities had recommended a site called Goodwill Estate which is about 2000 square metre in area, N Nabakanta added.
He added that today's discussion programme is being organised to discuss further course of action in acquiring the documents for the said recommended plot.
The discussion programme was attended by Khuman Leima, advisor International Manipur Mother's Association; National awardee Koijam Punyabati Leima; Yaikhom Thangoi Leima, president Kangla Sinthalembi Ima; Soram Mangi Luwang, advisor, Kangla Men Surung Hangba as presidium members.
