The three day 23rd state conference of Communist Party of India (CPI) Manipur State Council, which concluded recently, has appointed L Thoiren as the secretary of the party's state unit apart from adopting several resolutions.
Informing this during a press conference held at Irawat Bhawan here on Tuesday, outgoing secretary L Sotinkumar said that the state conference was held from July 8, during which a 75-member state council and a 27-member state executive committee were formed.
L Thoiren was elected as the secretary of the executive committee while N Singhajit and M Joykumar were elected as assistant secretaries, and A Lala as the treasurer.
The conference felt the need to increase the party's strength and agreed to rope in more students, women, youth farmers and trade unions into the party to double the strength within the current term.
Political resolutions adopted during the conference include special status for the state, free and fair election and fight against inflation, corruption and drugs.
Besides, the conference adopted resolutions to work on issues related with state boundary, which the state is on the verge of losing 392 square kilometre, Loktak Project, successful and effective implementation of MGNREGS, reservation for women among others by joining hands with the public.
Incoming state secretary L Thoiren said that earlier, there was state secretariat, state executive and state council in the party's organisational structure.
However, the party is taking up steps to reduce size of state council ahead of the national conference which will be held from October 14 to 18 in Vijaywada, Andhra Pradesh.
Consequently, there will be only state executive and state council from now on, he said.
The state executive and state council will do their best in translating into action the resolutions adopted by the state conference.
CPI is a political party of the people and the party will continue to work for the ideological, political and economic struggle in the interest of the public.
The party always stand for peace and development but it will fight for the public if their interest and rights are violated, he affirmed.
