Imphal, December 24 2022:
Chief Minister N Biren distributed benefits of welfare schemes taken up under Manipur Building and Other Construction Workers' Welfare Board (MBOCWWB) in a function held at Hapta Kangjeibung, here, on Friday.
Speaking as chief guest on the occasion, the CM highlighted several welfare benefits provided to beneficiaries of the scheme which include accidental death benefit, educational benefit, disability benefits among others.
Under the scheme, educational assistance of Rs 5000 per annum is provided for up to two children (up to higher secondary level) of the beneficiaries, and Rs 7500 per annum for children studying in BA, BCom, BSc courses.
Such benefits have changed the economic landscapes of the state to a certain level, he maintained.
While reminding that subsidies and financial components of the different welfare schemes are directly transferred into the bank accounts of the beneficiaries under the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Biren explained that Direct Benefit Transfer ensures that the subsidies and benefits reach the beneficiaries without the involvement of middlemen thereby leaving no room for corruption.
Recounting the suffering caused to mankind due to outbreak of the COVID pandemic, the CM said that the contagious disease has taught a valuable lesson that human and nature are interdependent on one another and harming the nature would only bring suffering to the society since nature has its own way of exacting toll.
"We need to live in harmony with nature echoing Prime Minister Narendra Modi's One Earth One Family slogan," he said.
The welfare benefits distributed included 5000 for education, 500 medical, 78 natural deaths, 16 accidents, 13 maternity and one disability case totalling Rs 7.68 crore.
The function was also attended by works minister Govindas Konthoujam, social welfare minister Heikham Dingo, education minister Thounaojam Bas-antakumar, MBOCWWB chairperson K Saratkumar and several MLAs.
