Govt urged to implement NCF recommendations

National Commission on Farmers (NCF) member Atul Kumar Anjan has said that 80 percent of the problems being faced by farmers of the country would be solved if 60 percent of the recommendations made by the commission for welfare of farmers are implemented effectively.
Atul Kumar Anjan stated this at the 32nd state conference of farmers on the theme 'Save agricultural land for sustainable agriculture and farmers' double income' organised by Manipur Loumee Lup at MDU hall, here, on Saturday.
Addressing farmers who attended the conference, Atul Kumar Anjan said that there had been numerous incidents of farmers committing suicide across the country but 80 percent of the problems being faced by farmers could be solved if 60 percent of the recommendations made by National Commission on Farmers to the government are effectively implemented.
He said that successive governments in the past as well as the present one fail to take any development at Loktak lake though the precious lake has huge potential for improving the socio-economic condition of the people.
While asserting that Manipur has very beautiful geographical area and fertile land, the Commission member cum All India Kisan Sabha general secretary said that nature cannot be separated from livelihood and lamented that vast tract of fertile agricultural land in Manipur have been wasted by constructing schools, shopping malls and industries.
In his keynote address, Manipur Loumee Lup president N Singhajit said that resolutions arrived at during the farmers' conference organised by the Lup in the past were intimated to relevant authority but there has no positive response till date.
Nevertheless, the Lup will continue to apprise government about problems of the farmers and resolutions arrived at the conference, he said.
Among the resolutions adopted at the conference include implementation of report of National Commission on Farmers, developing forest in both hills and valley, saving Loktak lake, dismantling Ithai Dam, compensating fishermen and farmers affected by Loktak Project, developing check dams in large number, promoting agro-forestry plantation and developing irrigation canals properly.
Other demands are revoking Electricity Bill, 2022, stopping privatisation, making farmers' policy public,legalising MSP, implementing PDS, ensuring food security and job security properly and providing compensation to farmers who died during agitations against farm laws.
The conference was also attended by ICAR NE region Manipur Centre, Imphal joint director Dr I Meghachandra as special guest while ex-minister Dr M Nara, Manipur Loumee Lup advisor L Thoirel, president N Singhajit and working president S Nilkamal were present as presidium members.
