Impacts of 'digital addiction' highlighted

Health and IPR Minister Dr Sapam Ranjan Singh has raised concern over digital addiction especially among young children.
He raised the above concern while speaking as the chief guest at the occasion of the inaugural function of 23rd Annual Conference of the Indian Psychiatric Society, Manipur State Branch held at Jubilee Hall, RIMS today.
The conference was held under the theme 'Digital Addiction: An Emerging Pandemic' .
Stressing on the need to raise awareness on proper use of mobile phones, the Minister said that the effect of mobile phones particularly to the children is alarming.
'The behavioural change of our children which is being witnessed during the recent past is very alarming.
The problem of addiction is not only for children but also for adults as well', he said.

He maintained that mobile phones though have its multi utilities and impressive impact to the society but reckless use of mobile phones leads to various psychological effects.
Psychologists and experts too have highlighted the harmful impacts of careless use of mobile phones therefore one should be aware of such impacts and take timely action to prevent any unwanted outcome.
He also appealed to the parents to keep a vigil over their children on use of mobile phones.
Regarding COVID-19, the Minister informed that new COVID variants have been found in some countries as per the reports from the Ministry.
He informed that the State is also prepared for taking up preventive measures and appealed to the public not to panic.
Speaking as the functional president, Indian Medical Society, Manipur State Branch President, Dr S Manikanta said that digital addiction includes internet, computer and mobile phones.
'Digital addiction may cause depression, anxiety, aggressiveness, insomnia and other disorders.
To fight this, we need to maintain healthy living', he added.
During the programme, Dr S Ranjan was also honoured by the Indian Psychiatric Society, Manipur State Branch with appreciation certificate and memento.
Distinguished psychiatrists were also honoured with appreciation certificates, mementos and awards.
Dr Kh Sashikaumar Mangang, Director Health Services, Manipur; Dr L Ranjit Singh, Director, RIMS and Dr Kh Lokeshwar Singh, MS, JNIMS also graced the occasion as guests of honour.
