Imphal, December 24 2022:
Taking serious note of the remark made by social activist Sapamcha Jadumani, who called drivers orphans and illiterate during a TV discussion programme, Manipur Drivers' Association (MDA) has warned of filing lawsuit against him if he does not apologise for his demeaning remark on drivers within five days.
Addressing a press meet at its office premises here on Saturday, MDA general secretary Sanjay Kshetrimayum said that the December 21 road accident was a tragic incident and MDA shares the grief and pain of the bereaved families while praying for speedy recovery for the injured survivors.
Unfortunately, Jadumani, who is a known social activist, made a derogatory remark on all drivers terming them as illiterate and orphans, Sanjay pointed out and strongly condemned the remark against a profession, especially from a social activist and demanded Jadumani to publicly clarify the rationale behind his remark.
Changing tyres and cooking meals in the middle of nowhere are parts and parcel of the profession.
At the same time, every person driving a vehicle is a driver irrespective of their ownership of vehicles or social stature, Sanjay explained.
In the state, drivers are the backbone of the society and its economy.
Even the chief minister needs a driver to take him to carry out his duties.
No driver wants to involve in any sort of road accidents.
They do not want to run over even a dead animal let alone living being.
The remark of Sapamcha Jadumani shows his mentality and MDA cannot accept such statements from anybody, Sanjay said, while demanding a public apology within five days, failing which MDA will file lawsuit against Jadumani.
All Manipur Night Super Bus Drivers' Welfare Association also condemned Sapamcha Jadumani, who is also the president of Federation of Haomee, for his remark on drivers and demanded public apology within five days.
Addressing a press meet at Manipur Press Club here on Saturday, Association's president Waribam Harimitra shared the grief and pain of the bereaved families and prayed for early recovery of the survivors.
Condemning Jadumani's remark, Harimitra said that the Association has boycotted Jadumani and urged all electronic media not to invite him for any discussion programmes in future.
