Dr Ranjan calls for conscious use of mobile phones

Pointing out that maximum of the mobile phone users have become addicted to the communication gadget, Health and IPR minister Dr Sapam Ranjan Singh has said that it's a high time for all to have the idea of proper usage of mobile phones.
The minister was speaking as chief guest at the inaugural function of 23rd annual conference of Indian Psychiatric Society, Manipur State Branch held at RIMS jubilee hall, here, on Saturday.
Dr Ranjan pointed out that there has been a trend on the use of mobile phones during the last few years.
The effect of mobile phones particularly among the children is very alarming and the behavioural change of our children in the recent past is even more distressing.
The problem of addiction is not only among children but also among the adults, he observed, while stressing the need to check and have awareness on how to use mobile phones properly.
The minister maintained that though mobile phones have multiple utilities and impressive impact on the society, the psychological effect of the unwise use of mobile phones by the general public has been highlighted by the psychologists and experts in the field.
As such, people should be careful about the ill effects that may be caused from improper and over-indulgence in using mobile phones.
Further noting that advancement of social media has helped the people to explore new innovative ideas and information as it evident from any sort of information and knowledge accessible with the help of mobile phones, he, however, stressed that physical activities should not be left behind.
As such, parents should check their children while using mobile phones, he said.
Regarding COVID-19 pandemic, the minister informed that recently there has been a new variant of COVID found in some countries according to reports from the ministry.
The state is also prepared for taking up preventive measures, he maintained, while urging the public not to panic.
Speaking as functional president, Indian Medical Society, Manipur president Dr S Manikanta informed that digital addiction includes internet, computer and mobile phones and continued that digital addiction may cause depression, anxiety, aggressiveness, insomnia and other disorders.
He suggested maintaining healthy living to fight digital addiction.
The Society honoured Dr S Ranjan and distinguished psychiatrists by presenting appreciation certificates and mementoes as a part of the event.
The inaugural function was also attended by Director Health Services Dr Kh Sasheekumar Mangang, RIMS director Dr L Ranjit Singh and JNIMS MS Dr Kh Lokeshwar Singh among others.
