AR hosts Maj Bob Khathing memorial lecture

Assam Rifles on Friday organised Major Bob Khathing Memorial Lecture 2022 under the theme "Leveraging North East Region for Enhancing Peace and Stability and Furthering India's Act East Policy" .
A press release issued by IGAR (South) said that the talk was delivered by Lt Gen Rana Pratap Kalita, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Eastern Command.
The General Officer during his talk highlighted the relevant aspects related to conflict resolution and leveraging economic potential as a key factor to ensure stability in the North East region.
The speaker also emphasized on the relevance of 4 Cs�� Culture, Commerce, Connectivity and Capacity Building as the important pillars of the Act East Policy.

Lt Gen PC Nair, Director General of Assam Rifles earlier brought out the geo-strategic importance of the North East region.
Eminent personalities from various policy making bodies and think tanks beside officers from the Indian Army, representatives of various CAPFs, Narcotics Control Bureau and others also attended the programme.
Major Bob Khathing was a legendary figure from the North East.
During World War II, he served with the V Force and for his gallantry, was awarded the Military Cross and Member of the British Empire (MBE), the IGAR (S) said and added that apart from his committed service in Assam during the earthquake of 1950, he played key roles during the transitional period in the States of Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland and Sikkim.
He was also the first officer to unfurl the Indian Tricolour at Tawang in 1951 and recipient of Padmashree in 1957 .
The statement further stated that Assam Rifles has a long and chequered history of its presence in the North East region since 1835.To add academic content to happenings in the North East, the Assam Rifles has established ties with various think tanks through seminars, panel discussions and other programmes, it continued.
The IGAR (S) also said that a Memorandum of Understanding has been inked with the United Services Institution of India as a part of its outreach programme.
