MP briefs House to strengthen SDRF

Rajya Sabha MP Leishemba Sanajaoba on Wednesday sought the attention of the House to strengthen the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) and take up appropriate measures to respond to the impacts of natural disasters on time.
Raising the issue as a supplementary question to the motion raised by MP Sanjay Raut, Leishemba Sanajaoba, who is also the titular king of Manipur, said that North East India being prone to natural calamity must be given facility to respond to any event of natural calamities.
He urged the Members of the House to strengthen the SDRF in North East States and provide a proper avenue so that they (SDRF) could coordinate with the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) at the time of natural disasters.
Responding to the query raised by Leishemba Sanajaoba, Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai said that the Centre has been extending all possible help to the States to mitigate disaster risks.
Saying that the Central Government has been holding a conference with the stakeholders concerned annually to improve the coordination between NDRF and SDRF, the MoS maintained that the Government is very attentive when it comes to events of natural disaster and strive to send rescue team along with the needed equipment to the sites of tragedy within 30 minutes.
He further stated that the Centre has been providing logistic as well as financial support to the North East States at the time of natural calamities.
