Imphal, December 24 2022:
Asserting that the newly constructed shops in Lamphel supermarket have been secretively distributed among the office bearers of Lamphel Super Market Shops and Street Vendors' Welfare Association, IMC elected members and rich businessmen, Lamphel Super Market Co-ordinating Committee has banned opening of all shops in the supermarket unless actions are taken up against the wrongdoers.
Addressing media persons at Lamphel Sanakeithel, committee co-convenor Ningthoujam Thaibema said that the government constructed a market shed at Lamphel Sanakeithel where 278 shops and 1500 street vendors could be accommodated.
Though the construction of the market shed has been completed, all approach roads and toilets for the market have not been constructed.
Even as a case has been pending in the Manipur High Court in connection with the allotment of shops, all the shops were found to have been surreptitiously distributed among the president, secretary, treasurer of Lamphel Super Market Shops and Street Vendors' Welfare Association along with the former Mayor of IMC in coordination with the counsellor of IMC, she charged while adding that unless appropriate actions are taken up against these culprits, no shops in the supermarket would be allowed to open.
The co-convenor, while stating that evidences of how many shops have been covertly allocated in the name of the office bearers of Lamphel Super Market Shops and Street Vendors' Welfare Association and the councillor and former mayor are in the custody of the committee, demanded the perpetrators to clarify to the public within 5 days failing which a complaint letter would be sent to the chief minister and the MAHUD minister for initiating necessary action.
