73rd Somkhap Phanit celebrated

Imphal, August 12 2022:
The 73rd Somkhap Phanit (pre-harvest festival of Tangkhul) was celebrated along with invoking blessing of the Almighty for a bountiful harvest at Hongmahn Tangkhul village, also known as Khongbal Tangkhul in Kangpokpi district on Friday.
The celebration began with lighting of the crematorium of MP (late) Runsung Shaiza and plantation of tree saplings.
Speaking at the celebra tion function held at Khongbal Tangkhul community hall, Ukhrul MLA Ram Muivah affirmed that he has been and will continue to work for peaceful co-existence and harmony among the different communities in the state.
Khongbal Tangkhul is an old Tangkhul village which is mentioned in ancient puya and in Cheitharol Kumbaba.
It is clearly written in Cheitharol Kumbaba that the community dug the ponds of the sacred Kangla and palace pond in Canchipur during the reign of king Gambhir, he informed, while wishing for a bountiful harvest so as to become self-reliant in food production.
Among others, the celebration was also attended by Thangkhanpai village chief Thangkham Misao, Tangkhul Naga Long president David Kashung and village elders.
