Farmers' training programme concludes

The two days farmers' training programme on "Scientific Cultivation of Ginger and Turmeric for Higher Productivity and Income" concluded today at the College of Agriculture.
The training programme was organized by College of Agriculture (COA), Central Agricultural University (CAU), Imphal in collaboration with the Department of Horticulture and Soil Conservation, Government of Manipur, said a press release by COA, CAU.
The programme is held under the theme 'Transfer of Technology programmes' and is funded by CSS-MIDH, Directorate of Arecanut and Spices Development, Calicut, Kerala.
Speaking at the occasion, Professor Indira Sarangthem, Dean, COA, highlighted the problems faced by the spice growers.
K Debadutta Sharma, Project Director, MOMA, expressed that the quality of ginger and turmeric in Manipur, Mizoram and Meghalaya is better than other NE states and curcumin content of turmeric is very high in these states.
Professor AK Bijaya Devi, HOD, Dept of Horticulture, CAU, Imphal while speaking at the occasion, explained the scientific cultivation of ginger for higher productivity and income.
She also gave assurance to impart technical knowledge and assistance for uplifting the livelihood of farmers in the State.
Inputs like micronutrients for 26 hectare and bio-capsules such as PGPR, Trichoderma and Bacillich for 7 hectares were distributed to the trainees for application to ginger and turmeric.
