Imphal, August 12 2022:
After the medical department gave the assurance of releasing the monthly incentive amount of Rs 1,000 as demanded by ASHA workers for a long time, All Manipur ASHA Workers' Union has thanked the health minister and declared cancellation of its proposed agitation slated to commence from August 28.According to Union president Naorem Binodini, ASHA workers are responsible for the success of National Health Mission programmes but their incentive is too meagre.
All the funds for the programme are provided by the Central government and the state government has no share.
When ASHA workers demanded monthly incentive of Rs 2000, the previous government promised Rs 1000 and approved by the cabinet though no official order had been issued.
Demanding issuance of an official order, ASHA workers even launched strike and submitted memorandum to MLAs.
However, the health minister invited the union and held a joint meet with the mission director and the minister assured of releasing the pending incentive amount from November, 2021 to March, 2022 within August 16, Binodini said and declared cancellation of union's strike which was proposed to begin from August 28 .
