On the occasion of 18th Raising Day of its armed wing Miyamgi Fingang Lanmi (MFL), which falls on August 13, the proscribed Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) has extended revolutionary greetings to all the people of Kangleipak (Manipur) and WESEA as well as to revolutionary groups, CSOs, intellectuals and students.
MFL being raised on Patriots' Day, the outfit has been observing MFL Raising Day and Patriots' Day together for the past many years, a KCP statement issued by Military Affairs Committee (MAC) of MFL said.
Taking advantage of the occasion, MAC of MFL also shares outfit's thought with the people for discussion and deliberation.
According to MAC, August 13 is a day which reminds the present generation about the supreme sacrifices made by forefathers of the land while fighting the mighty British in the Anglo Manipur War of 1891.Similar to seven years devastation (Chahi Taret Khuntakpa) of 1819 to 1826, August 13,1891 was the day the fresh bud of freedom of the people of Kangleipak was crushed and every Kanglei regrets the day with clenched fist even today.
Every Kanglei must remember the historic day in the right perspective and preserve it for future generation, the MAC statement said and maintained that Kanglei would not have past if neglects their own history and there will be no future for Kanglei people if there is no past.
In several phases of history, Kanglei/Manipuri society faced severe impact of foreign invasion which could even extinct the society and many lessons and knowledge in this regard could be gained with elaborate study of only two historical events, namely 7 years devastation of 1819-1826 and Anglo-Manipur War of 1891, the MAC statement said.
While recalling the historical events of the origin of 7 years devastation and how the invader Burmese were forced out from Kangleipak, the MAC statement said that the 7 years devastation occurred at the time when majority of Kanglei people skipped war activities due to adoption of Hindu religion just after the death of king Bheigyachandra.
After Bheigyachandra's death, there were differences among his offspring thereby leading to internal conflict amongst the princes for securing the throne.
Amidst such unstable period, Marjit sought the help of Awa king and secured the Kanglei throne after dethroning elder brother Chourjit in 1813.However, Awa king charged puppet king Marjit of failing to follow his diktat and invaded Kangleipak and accordingly Kangleipak kingdom had no king.
The inhuman approach of Awa king forced majority of Kanglei people including the royal families to took refuge in Cachar and the Kanglei kingdom had no king for several years.
Amidst the period of devastation, Hirachandra established close relation with hill people and started attacking Awa forces.
At the same time, descendants of king Bheigyachandra stopped conflict within them and established unity.
With the help of the British, king Gambhir Singh formed 'Manipur Levy' and forced out Awa forces till the bank of Ningthi river and thus Kangleipak regained sovereignty.
