School students take anti-drug pledge

Imphal, August 12 2022:
As part of 'Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.' celebration, hundreds of school students of various districts took the pledge under Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan campaign (NMBA)/Drug Free India campaign on Friday against substance abuse and vowed to stay away from drugs and make a drug free country.
NMBA is a flagship campaign under Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment to enhance the evidence based approach towards substance abuse.
The aim of the ceremony was to strengthen action and cooperation in achieving the goal of a sustainable world free of substance abuse.
In Pherzawl, students of schools under ZEO took the pledge administered by Pherzawl district nodal officer Huai Sian Mawi, who is also APO (RTE) .
Speaking on the occasion, ZEO Hemchand Yumnam cautioned that drug addiction is an issue of serious concern, especially among the youngsters.
Stating that the NMBA campaign was organised to address the issue of drug abuse among young people, he called for active cooperation of the community to realise the goal of Drug Free India.
Similarly in Kangpokpi district, school students from various schools took the anti-drug pledge under Nasha Mukht Bharat Abhiyaan.
The pledge was administered to students of Hengbung High School, Keithelmanbi Government High School, Chalwa High School and Gangpijang UJB School among others.
Kangpokpi zonal education officer and officials also took the oath at ZEO office.
In Kakching district, school students under Zonal Education Office Kakching made the oath taking to make India a drug free nation under the same campaign while in Thoubal district, hundreds of school students took the pledge to stay away from consuming drugs and various intoxicating substances, in a programme organised by Zonal Education Office and NYK Thoubal.
It is worth mentioning that Thoubal district received 2nd position in best performing district category under Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan for year 2020-21 .
