Imphal, August 12 2022:
The Senapati District Truck Owners' Association (SDTOA) has clarified that they unloaded sand from some overloaded trucks coming from Dimapur towards Imphal recently for the wellbeing of all.
Speaking to media persons in this regard yesterday, spokesperson of SDTOA K Adani Mao said that National Highway-2 is an important route and a lifeline of the people of Manipur.
Saying that it is the primary duty of all stakeholders concerned to ensure the safety of the drivers and occupants of the vehicles moving along the National Highways in Manipur, K Adani continued that they removed content from the overloaded trucks, especially those transporting sand to avoid accidents or any untoward incidents and to enforce the direction given by the State Government on transporting goods.
Further stating that a portion of sand unloaded by the association had already been taken by the truck owners, he added that the remaining sand will also be handed over to the owners within a week and accept no complaints after that.
K Adani further stated that the SDTOA has been carrying out a campaign on road safety with like minded associations such as Manipur Drivers' Association, Senapati District Truck Drivers' Union, All Manipur Gorkha Drivers & Truck Owners' Association and others and the same is being supported by North East Federation of Trade Union, Dimapur Truck Owners' Association and Dimapur District Trade Union.
Saying that all transporters and owners must not load their vehicles excessively so as to ensure the safety of the people and to avoid damaging the road and other infrastructure, he added that blaming the Government for every problem would also be wrongful.
K Adani also said that they (SDTOA) and Manipur Drivers' Association even deployed heavy machinery when movement at the highway stretch became difficult in the past for the convenience of the transporters and travellers.
Saying that a certain unregistered association accusing the SDTOA of certain misdeed in the media is very unfortunate, K Adani maintained that they will continue the campaign on road safety despite all odds.
