Training ends, sewing machines distributed

Imphal, December 01 2021: A series of master trainers' training programmes on tailoring organised in different districts of the state by People's Development Society (PDS) in association with Usha International Limited and Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) concluded on Tuesday.

The last leg of the residential training programme for participants of Imphal East district began from November 22 at the conference hall of PDS, New Checkon under the aegis of Usha Silai School and concluded on Tuesday.

Social welfare director Ng Uttam and PDS executive officer Th Biramangol attended the closing ceremony as chief guest and president respectively while Usha International Limited Guwahati deputy department manager Sadhana Sharma and Usha International Limited master trainer E Surbala were present as guests of honour.

Speaking at the event, Biramangol informed that the training programme was organised especially for women to help improve their socio-economic status in the society.

There are 250 Usha Silai Schools in Imphal East, Imphal West, Bishnupur, Thoubal, Kakching, Ukhrul, Jiribam and Churachandpur districts.

Altogether, 25 master trainers participated in the training and they were provided one sewing machine each by Usha International Limited.

They will further provide training to other women in their respective localities and Usha International will provide required sewing machines to them too.

Monthly reports will be collected from the master trainers for planning further course of action, he said.

Social welfare director Ng Uttam hailed PDS for organising the training and said that the government also has provisions to organise such programmes but the beneficiaries are required to bear 30 per cent of the cost of sewing machines so that only the truly interested people can avail the benefits.

He also emphasised on the importance of various income generating activities for improving the socio-economic condition of the state.
