Ukhrul, December 01 2021:
After a hiatus of 20 years, Mathotmi Youth Club (MYC) of Khangkhui Khunou village, Ukhrul district revived its age-old Youth Glory Day by celebrating the day with a literary meet and cultural programme on Tuesday.
Attending the event as chief guest, BJP ST Morcha 44-Ukhrul national executive member Asai Somayang Nga-kuimiza hoisted the Glory Day flag amidst singing of its theme song here at the village public ground.
In his speech, Asai Ngakuimiza, who is intending to contest the forthcoming state assembly elections on BJP ticket, emphasised on the need for promoting youth empowerment so as to realise their full potential.
Asai said he has set a personal commitment to empower the youth which has nothing to do with his electoral manifesto.
"Whether I get elected as an MLA or not, I'm committed to do my bit for the development of our youth," he declared.
Maintaining that youth is the most beautiful and coveted period of one's lifetime, he exhorted them to live up to the expectations of the society.
He went on to say that there is no dearth of talents among youngsters, and urged them to follow the footsteps of their elders and leaders.
Asai Ngakuimiza also observed that villages in the district are in dire need of autonomy in their respective village administration.
"It's the village authority that knows best what they want and need.
No outsiders can feel the pulse of the villagers.
For this, we need to empower the village authorities in the district," he said.
He also called for promoting communal harmony for peaceful co-existence among the various communities in the state.
In his welcome address, MYC president in-charge Lakshang AS expressed elation at the revival of the celebration of MYC Glory Day after a lapse of 20 years.
He narrated that youth in the village used to celebrate this occasion as a week-long affair in the olden days.
However, in present day, the celebration is gradually losing its significance in the face of growing migration of youth to outside and metro cities.
"With this observance today, we have revived the long-neglected celebration and we look forward to keeping it alive in the years to come," Lakshang anticipated.
Held under the theme Stand fortruth, strive for development', the occasion showcased varied talents and skills of youths by organising an array of competitive events like debate, solo competition, extempore speech, King & Queen Q&A Round, jokes and news reading, and traditional events like bamboo climbing, 'Sikui Kaphung' and others.
Mathotmi Youth Club currently has around 100 members living in the village.
Khangkhui Khunou located about 20 km east of Ukhrul district headquarters is also well known for its historic WWI battlefield 'Harva Khangai' .
