Every household of Langthabal AC to get access to drinking water by 2024: Karam Shyam

The blessing ceremony for three water supply projects to be taken up in Langthabal AC under Jal Jeevan Mission Har Ghar Jal and financed by New Development Bank (NDB) was held today at the project site in Lilong Chajing Water Supply Scheme, Toupokpi.
The programme was attended by Langthabal AC MLA Karam Shyam; social worker B Brajagopal Sharma; PHED Executive Engineer (Imphal West Division) N Sanjitkumar; Rama Krishna, project director Keystone Infra Pvt Ltd (KSIPL) and consultant W Kunjeshore as presidium members.
Speaking at the programme, Karam Shyam said more than 80% of the population of Langthabal AC including himself does not currently have access to drinking water and have to rely on water tankers for drinking water.
The issue of non-availability of drinking water has been a problem that has marred his 10 years of political career.
However, with the coming of BJP led Government in the Centre and the State, three projects in Langthabal AC were included in the Jal Jeevan Mission Har Ghar Jal launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi with the aim of providing clean drinking water to every household by 2024.On completion of these three projects, viz Augmentation of Lilong Chajing Water Supply Scheme, Augmentation of Chajing Karam Water Supply Scheme and Augmentation of Lilong Haoreibi Water Supply Scheme, 100 percent population of the constituency will have access to clean drinking water, he added.
The project at Lilong Chajing is to be taken up at a cost of Rs 9.95 core, the one at Chajing Karam at a cost of Rs 5.75 crore and the one at Lilong Haoreibi will cost Rs 5.97 crore, he added.
Karam Shyam also urged KSIPL which is undertaking the construction of the projects and PHED Imphal West Division which is overlooking the projects to ensure that the projects are completed right on or before the stipulated time.
He also assured that the locals will face any disturbances in the projects.
Executive Engineer N Sanjitkumar said due to the COVID-19 pandemic and open e-tender, there were some delay in the initiation of the projects but now that they have started, PHED will urge the work agencies to complete the projects at the earliest.
After completion of the projects, maintenance of the sites are to be undertaken by the Village Water and Sanitation Committee, he added.
