Ukhrul, December 01 2021:
The use of affordable made-in-China Kenbo motorcycles has been banned in Kamjong sub-Division, Kamjong.
SDO Kamjong, Samuel Tongminlen Lhungdim has issued an order to ban the use of Kenbo bikes with immediate effect from November in Kamjong.
The circular also informed the headmen, chairmen and chiefs of the villages in Kamjong block to advise all the individuals in possession of the said bike to adhere to the Government order.
Although possession of Kenbo bikes is illegal without valid documents, the bike has high demand in the remote villages of the district for its better efficiency and maintenance cost.
The locals use Kenbo bikes to commute to the inter-border villages as it is the most effective means of transportation in the hilly terrain.
It may be mentioned that following the November 13 incident of Churachandpur wherein 5 security personnel including the Commanding officer was killed, Assam Rifles had issued a travel advisory for the border villages of Ukhrul and Kamjong to conduct "Aggressive Defensive Posture", cautioning all to not move towards the Indo-Myanmar border.
