MLA Arunkumar calls for safeguard of culture, tradition

Wangkhei MLA Thangjam Arunkumar stressed the need to restrict activities which are distorting and misleading the beautiful and unique culture and tradition of Manipur.
He was speaking during the prize distribution function of Ethnic tradition solo dance competition 2022' organised by Mabung Taret under the aegis of Nongthou Taret at Government Dance College open air auditorium, Palace Compound here on Wednesday.
MLA Arunkumar said that those who do not have their own culture, tradition and religion are similar to living dead people.
Fortunately, our ancestors bequeath us beautiful culture and tradition and such culture and tradition is a matter of pride for the people, he continued, while urging the people for preservation of culture and tradition.
It is unfortunate that some people mislead and distort the beautiful culture, he lamented.
Recounting the recent cases of 'Tangkhul Saba' of Lai Haraoba and singers in wedding ceremony that went viral on social media, he stressed the need for restricting such acts that mislead and distort the culture and tradition.
The first prize of 'Ethnic Tradition Solo dance competition' in senior category was won by Konica Sanjenbam, while Leitanthem Rupeshowri and Sougaijam Ratna bagged second and third prize.
Panthoi Chungkham, Lanchenbi Huidrom and Yengkhom Bidyasagar won first, second and third prize respectively in the junior category.
They were honoured by presenting the prizes.
