Imphal, August 02 2026:
Former Sagolband MLA Dr Khwairakpam Loken has said the people can no longer endure the impact of the three-yearlong crisis in the State, and the Government must take immediate steps to resolve the pending issues.
Speaking at a Booth Level Women's Coordination & Interaction Programme organised by Sagolband Mahila Block Congress Committee at Sega Road Takhellambam Leikai on Sunday, Dr Loken said the unrest that has continued for over three years has no parallel in Manipur's history.
It has affected everyone and disrupted normal life.
Even today, free movement along National Highways remains restricted.
He alleged that the failure of the Government has led to extortion by armed groups even in the presence of security forces.
Travel between districts is also severely hit.
The road to Kamjong and Ukhrul yia the main route is unusable, forcing people to take longer alternate routes.
Despite security deployment, transport of goods continues to be disrupted.
People from Senapati have to travel via Dimapur and take flights to reach Imphal, he said.
Dr Loken questioned how long the BJP-led Government would remain silent while people suffer, and urged it to convene an all-party meeting and apprise the Centre.
He added that central security forces deployed to protect lives have instead become a source of harassment for the public.
