Imphal, August 02 2026:
The Zeliangrong Welfare Association, Delhi (ZWAD) has appealed to Civil Society Organisation leaders in the Zeliangrong region of Manipur to maintain neutrality and work toward peace amid the ongoing crisis in the State.
In a statement issued on Sunday, ZWAD expressed concern over reports of certain CSOs aligning with one side and openly condemning another, particularly in light of the current tensions between ZUF and NSCN-IM .
The association said such actions compromise the credibility and moral authority of civil society institutions, which are expected to serve as impartial bridges between the State and the people.
ZWAD stated that CSOs must safeguard public interest, promote justice, encourage dialogue, and foster peacefill coexistence.
It noted that when civil society becomes an extension of competing interests, it fails its core purpose.
The association further said that at a time when Zeliangrong communities face external challenges to collective rights and ancestral lands, internal rivalries are diverting attention.
It urged leaders to rise above factional interests and ensure that every statement and action contributes to healing, dialogue, and unity rather than division and confrontation.
