Noney, August 02 2026:
The Rongmei Luh Phuam (RLP), Khoupum Area, has strongly condemned the armed confrontation reported at Samlengtiang, Khoupum, on August 1, and appealed to the NSCN (IM) and Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF) to immediately stop fighting and resolve their differences through dialogue and reconciliation.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the RLP alleged that cadres of the NSCN (IM) entered the Khoupum area by vehicle, left near Irang Bridge and proceeded on foot towards ZUF territory, leading to an armed confrontation.
It alleged that the cadres carried guns and that the incident brought fear and insecurity to peaceful villagers.
The RLP held the NSCN (IM) primarily responsible for the incident, asserting that no armed group has the right to enter its land, endanger innocent civilians and turn their villages into battlefields.
The organisation said it had repeatedly stood between the two organisations and appealed for peace, adding that the people of Khoupum had already endured fear, trauma and insecurity for too long.
"The people of Khoupum cannot keep living under the shadow of guns because two groups refuse to talk," the statement said, adding that the community's commitment to peace should not be mistaken for weakness.
The RLP appealed to the NSCN (IM) to never again bring armed operations into the Khoupum area and urged both the NSCN (IM) and ZUF to immediately stop fighting and settle their differences through dialogue, choosing reconciliation over violence in the interest of the unity and future of the Zeliangrong Naga people.
"Enough blood has been shed.
Enough tears have been shed.
Enough fear has been inflicted on our people," the organisation said, urging all concerned to ensure that the recent incident would be the last such tragedy witnessed in Khoupum.
