Dr Sapam Ranjan lauds committed service of ASHA workers

Health, Family Welfare & IPR Minister Dr Sapam Ranjan Singh has commended the committed service of ASHA workers on the occasion of 'Distribution of Bags and Umbrellas to ASHAs of Manipur' held at Heritage Hall, Indian Medical Association, Lamphelpat today.
The event was jointly organised by Directorate of Health Services, National Health Mission Manipur and World Health Organisation.
Speaking as the chief guest of the function, Dr Sapam Ranjan stated that focus must be given to the primary health care system.
Without strengthening primary health care, which is at the grassroot level, the tertiary health care system cannot be improved, he said.

Adding that the Government is trying to improve the overall health care system in the State, he stated that efforts are underway, including with the help of Public Private Partnership (PPP), to establish better health care facilities in far flung hill districts of Manipur.
H further sought people's cooperation in this regard.
The Minister further said that ASHA workers are the link between the grassroot health care service and the community and expressed appreciation for ASHAs for their role during the COVID-19 pandemic.
He also highlighted the involvement of ASHAs in maximum programs and activities of the National Health Mission (NHM) and informed that the World Health Organization (WHO) has recognized the dedicated service of ASHAs.
Dr Sapam Ranjan Singh also stated that ASHAs played a connecting role during the nutritional and sanitary campaign of the department.
Speaking as functional president Dr Kh Sasheekumar Mangang, Director, Health Services Manipur said that ASHAs show their worth through their actions and not by words.
He shared that there are a total of 664,349 villages and 700,000 ASHA workers in India.
They have become the interface between health functionaries and communities and should be given training in simple and easy ways, he suggested.
Dr Somorjit Ningombam, Director, National Health Mission, Manipur also shared the dais as guest of honour.
Officials and staff of the Health Department and NHM, Manipur and others attended the function.
Later, Dr Sapam Ranjan also paid a surprise visit to the Medical Directorate Office and conducted an inspection of the medical store room of the Directorate.
