MHRC has inadequate staff : K Mani

Acting Chairperson of Manipur State Human Rights Commission (MHRC), Khaidem Mani has stated that there is a great shortage of manpower at the Commission for it to function properly.
The tenure of service of the Acting Chairperson of the MHRC ends today.
Addressing media persons at Lamphel Court complex today, K Mani spoke about the works he had done as the Acting Chairperson of MHRC and the shortage of infrastructure, manpower of the Commission.
Saying that the MHRC must at least have four divisions and a workforce of about 150 officials, K Mani said that the Commission, however, doesn't even have 30 staff.
"Despite the limitation, I worked art my level best to protect the rights of the people," he said and added that more than 700 suo motu cases were taken up during his tenure.
Saying that there are many people who have poor legal knowledge and don't know how to lodge a complaint to protect their rights, K Mani said that the State will prosper when the majority of the people know when or how to lodge a complaint to safeguard their rights.
K Mani said that he strived to remove distruibed area status from many places of the State, publish an annual report of the Commission for 2020-21 and 2021-22, amended a rule for MHRC to recruit its own staff, gave a rule to provide compensation to the victims of police atrocities during his tenure.
K Mani said that he would continue working for the wellbeing of the masses.
