Exhibition on inclusion of Manipuri language in 8th Schedule inaugurated

A photo and document exhibition of the inclusion of Manipuri language in the 8th Schedule of the Indian constitution was inaugurated by former Minister Khundrakpam Jibon at Manipur Public Library, BT Road, Imphal today.
It may be noted that Manipuri language was included in the 8th Schedule of the Indian constitution under the 71st Amendment Act on August 20, 1992 .
According to a statement issued by Loitam Surjit, secretary, Organising Committee of Manipuri Language Photo and Document Exhibition, the inaugural ceremony was attended by Ksh Shanta, secretary, MSC/CPI; A Nabakishore Singh, former Chief Secretary; Kangjam Chaoba, president, Manipur Library Association; noted writer L Memo; Dr H Temba, secretary, Naharol Sahitya Parishad; Naorem Rajendra, secretary, Manipur Literary Society; A Netrajit, managing director, Ashangbam Communications and Sarat Salam, social activist.
The exhibition will display photos of the Manipuri Language Movement, a memorandum signed by 211 MPs demanding inclusion of Manipuri language in the Eighth Schedule among others, the statement shared.
The statement has further shared that the exhibition will be open for viewing from 2 pm to 6:30 pm.
It will conclude on Sunday, September 4 .
