UCM president appeals for use of handloom fabric to tailor school uniforms

Imphal, August 31 2022:
United Committee Manipur (UCM) in association with the Agriculture Department organised a one day farmers' training programme on 'Rejuvenation of Farm Economy' along with distribution of urea and seeds of Rabi crops at Irengbam Awang Leikai in Bishnupur district today.
The programme was attended by I Gopen, Pradhan, Irengbam GP; Joychandra Konthoujam, president UCM and Th Landhoni, Member, Irengbam GP as the presidium members.
Speaking on the occasion, Joychandra Konthoujam shared that after agriculture, handloom and handicrafts contribute the most to the State economy.
As such, citing Chief Minister N Biren Singh's alleged statement to use handloom and handicraft products across all department offices in the State, he urged for actualisation of the same.
Further, he called for the use of handloom fabrics to tailor school uniforms.
The UCM president also appealed to the State administration to ban import of mass mill-produced cloths imitating the handloom products of local weavers as these pose a serious concern to the economic standing of the weavers of the State.
Lastly, he appealed for revival of the Manipur Spinning Mill.
The programme was also attended by L Rameshwor, Agriculture Officer, Bishnupur and S Bidyarani, representative, ATMA Bishnupur, who further delivered insightful lectures as resource persons.
