Imphal, August 02 2026: The Scheduled Tribe Demand Committee Manipur (STD-CM) has resolved to resume its movement demanding the inclusion of the Meetei/Meitei community in the Scheduled Tribe (ST) list under the Constitution.

According to a press note issued by STDCM, the decision was taken during a consultative meeting held at Ima Khunthokhanbi Shang-len at the DMU campus today.

The meeting deliberated on the impact of the ongoing crisis on the demand for ST status for the ethnic group and discussed the future course of action for the Committee.

As the situation has improved to some extent, the meeting unanimously resolved to urge the State Government to ensure Constitutional safeguards for the Meetei/Meitei community, the Committee stated.
