Imphal, August 02 2026:
In continuation of its movement for updating the National Register of Citizens (NRC) with respect to Manipur, the Campaign for Just and Fair Delimitation (JFD) has launched street corner meetings today.
The JFD today held street corner meetings at markets and other public places along Indo-Burma-Sugnu Road and Tiddim Road.
A press release issued by the JFD asserted that no census operations will be allowed in Manipur unless illegal immigrants are first identified.
The NRC must be updated before launching census operations.

The integrity of the census data will forever remain highly questionable if census operations are carried out without first identifying illegal immigrants.
If the illegal immigrants are taken into the population count, it will pose serious challenges to the indigenous people politically, economically and socially, it said.
The violent crisis which erupted on May 3, 2023 has not been resolved yet and a large number of displaced people still cannot go back home.
National Highways remain inaccessible to large sections of people.
Census operations under such circumstances will neither be fair nor just, it said.
Clause 3 of the Census Act 1948 clearly says that census operations can be deferred if there is unrest in any particular area or region, the JFD asserted.
As decided at a joint meeting of JFD and CSOs at Manipur Press Club a few days back, the State Government must come out with an official announcement by August 6 that the NRC will be updated before proceeding with census operations.
If the State Government fails to make such an official announcement within the deadline, strong mass agitation will be launched from the next day, the JFD said.
It also appealed to all the people to stage protest demonstrations at their respective localities till August 6 .
