Political activist stresses on changes through election

Khanthang Tonsing, an intending candidate from Thanlon assembly constituency, has said that elections are an important exercise provided by the democratic set up to change leaders whom voters think are not suitable so as to bring about positive change.
He made the remarks during a press meet held at his Churachandpur residence after his one - week tour of Thanlon.
Khanthang is the son of former minister late T Phungzathang Tonsing, who was elected for three consecutive terms from Thanlon assembly constituency and another three-year stint as MLA and minister representing Churachandpur constituency, Khanthang said-that elections are a platform fgr a change after every 5 years and it is up to the people to decide on changing the sitting MLA or minister, adding that this is an important occasion for changing leaders unable to live up to the people's expectation.
On issues he wanted to address, Khanthang said emphasised on bringing the much-needed reconciliation amongst the people, mainly the Paite community.
On questions about Hill Areas Committee, Khangthang he said that the decision to include non-tribals is a matter of great concern and termed jt as highly unprecedented.
About his tour of Thanlon assembly constituency, he said that he Was overwhelmed by the warm welcome accorded to him by the public and he attributed that gesture to his late father's good deeds.
Regarding the rumours that only BJP candidates are allowed to campaign in Thanlon A/C, Khangthang said that he didn't encounter any problems, adding that election is still 4-5 months away and it is still unclear who will be the BJP candidate, while hinting that he could be one such candidate.
