Kangpokpi, September 14 2021:
After almost 10 days of picketing the Deputy Commissioner Kangpokpi office, the protesters on Tuesday finally suspended its agitation.
It may be mentioned that the unresolved National Highway expansion issue in Kangpokpi District landed the Deputy Commissioner Kangpokpi in trouble as the enraged mob locked his office on September 6 and demand his immediate transfer after a scuffle at Charhajare when the IAS officer allegedly bulldozed survey for the highway expansion with excessive force.
Following which, an enraged mob picketed the office of DC Kangpokpi and barred the IAS officer from entering the office.
It was only after an agreement was reached between the two parties, the enraged mob cleared the road and opened the DC Kangpokpi office.
According to Kangpokpi District Chiefs Joint Coordinating Committee on Land Matters, a series of meetings was held during the agitation with the Government, and finally an agreement was reached on Tuesday.

It was also agreed that DC Kangpokpi should initiate the process as per Chief Minister's direction by cancelling the previous 3A Gazette notification followed by re-issuance of a Gazette order at the earliest to expedite the much-awaited national project.
It stated that the agreement in principle on September 8, 2021, with the Chief Minister over the vexed land acquisition issue has negated the previous notifications including the 3A gazette notification while it was agreed in the meeting that the compensation for the landowners would be based on the joint survey conducted by the office of DC Kangpokpi and affected landowners association and subsequent notification on July 3, 2020.It further stated that based on the July 3, 2020 notification and subsequent survey, a Gazette notification was issued in regard to road expansion and fair compensation for the stretch between Taphou-Kuki to Changoubung in Kangpokpi district while adding that the same may be applied to areas between Gamgiphai to Kalapahar.
Later, the sealed gate of DC Kangpokpi Office was opened by the leaders of Kangpokpi District Chiefs Joint Co-ordinating Committee on Land Matters in the presence of various other stakeholders and CSO leaders.
