Ukhongsang Meira Paibi secretary Thangjam Sanoi Devi has termed the allegation levelled by one Mala of her being beaten badly after pulling out from an election related meeting attended by Heirok MLA Thokchom Radheshyam at Ukhongsang on September 11 as baseless and malicious.
The meeting was unrelated with election but a meeting of the local Meira Paibi and MLA Radheshyam was facilitated to discuss about construction of Meira Paibi shed, Sanoi Devi told media persons on Tuesday and clarified that local Meira Paibi and Heirok MLA were in no way related with arrest of Mala by police and sending her to lock up of Nongpok Sekmai police station.
On the other hand, BJP Ukhongsang Booth Level Committee spokesperson Thangjam Nando told media persons in another press conference that the meeting held on September 11 at Ukhongsang was.
not related with election but it was a meet for local Meira Paibi and Heirok MLA for construction of Meira Paibi shed.
During the meeting, Mala not only shook hands with the MLA but also talked irresponsibly which prompted local women present at the meet to pull her out.
As soon as the meeting ended, the MLA left after handing over money for construction of the proposed Meira Paibi shed and no one present at the meeting lodged complaint for arresting Mala, Nando said, adding that everyone present at the meeting were witnesses of the truth about the incident.
Meanwhile, Nongpok Sekmai PS OC Premkumar Keisham, in a statement, said that a team of the police station led by him which included women personnel conducted routine patrolling at Ukhongshang area at about 5.30pm on September 11.As the police team approached a local waiting shed, Mala was found shouting at local people, suspiciously in inebriated condition.
The police team repeatedly told Mala to stop her activity but she never cooperated.
To maintain law and order in the area, the police team picked up Mala and took her to a doctor for conducting necessary medical examination.
As the doctor confirmed that Mala was in inebriated condition and could not control herself during medical examination due to excessive drinking, police filed a non-FIR case and produced her before a competent court on September 12.The court then handed over Mala to her husband with a surety bond that she would maintain good behaviour, the OC explained.
