Demise of Oscar Fernandes mourned

Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) has conveyed deepest condolences over the demise of All India Congress Committee (AICC) senior leader Oscar Fernandes, who passed away on Monday.
On Tuesday, Congress MLAs, ex-MPs, ex-MLAs, office bearers, Frontal, Department and Cell leaders convened a meeting at Congress Bhawan, wherein the gathering observed a two-minute silence as a mark of respect to the departed soul.
Speaking on the solemn occasion, CLP leader O Ibobi expressed his deepest sorrow over the death of Fernandes, who passed away in his hometown in Mangalore, Karnataka due to an illness.
Ibobi continued that Oscar Fernandes played huge role in strengthening the party and also in the development of the country.
He was a just person, who after being appointed as Union Minister, met the people late into the night so as to help resolve their worries.
"Congress will forever remember his contributions," he said, while sharing the grief of the bereaved family.
National Socialist Council of Nagalim (NSCN) also mourned the demise of sitting Rajya Sabha member and former Union Minister Oscar Fernandes.
In press release, NSCN/GPRN recounted that in 2005 during the UPA government, Oscar Fernandes was appointed by the then Prime Minister Dr Manmohan as a leader of a Group of Ministers to hold talks with the NSCN leadership under former chairman Isak Chishi Swu and general secretary Th Muivah.
"We fondly remember him coming to Amsterdam (Netherlands) and Bangkok (Thailand) in 2006 to discuss the Naga issue.
We appreciate his sincerity to solve the Naga issue.
We respect him for what he was.
He was not an ordinary politician but a seasoned one.
We regard him as the most liberal politician in India.
In his death, the Nagas have lost a very important personality and friend who understand the Naga political issue," said the release.
NSCN also extended its deepest condolences to the bereaved family members and friends and also prayed to God for peaceful repose of the departed soul in its heavenly abode.
