Sit-in denounces bid to shift residential school

While opposing the move to shift Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Awashiya Vidyalaya Residential School, which was set up in 2012 at Laingoubi with funding from Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) after one Khumanthem Khelendro of Laingoubi donated the required land, to Chairel Mangjil, locals of Laingoubi on Sunday staged a protest against the attempt to relocate the school.
Speaking on the sidelines of the protest, Laingoubi Meira Paibi Lup assistant secretary Ng Bina Devi asserted that construction of the first phase of the school at Chairel Mangjil is without any government order and further clarified that the government issued the order for setting up the school at Laingoubi.
Meira Paibi, clubs, organisations and students of the school launched intense protest in 2015 also against the forceful attempt to shift the school from Laingoubi.
Lauding upgrade of the school by adding Class 9 and 10 classes as it will ease the problem of poor parents in sending their children to the government school; Bina enquired about the hidden agenda of the government behind starting construction of the school at Chairel Mangjil so as to shift there.
She maintained that they will not allow shifting of the only residential school provided by the central government for Bishnupur district on the ground of benefiting contractors.
As such, she urged the government and the education minister to construct the school building at the present site and not to destroy the present residential school where around 100 students both male and female are studying.
Meira Paibi groups of Laingoubi, Borayangbi, Khoijumantabi and Khulakpat along with Laingoubi Youth Development Club, Khoijumantabi Development Organisation, Khulakpat Youth Development Organisation and Borayangbi Sporting Club took part in the protest.
